festive and bright

My mom, sister, and I made these for a little crafting experiment. I like the idea of a little fabric or paper banner for the wedding, so we tried out a couple tutorials we found to see what we could make. We used this tutorial for the little tissue tassels, and this tutorial for the big pom pom. I have seen some more tutorials since for the tissue tassels that might be a little better, and I have pinned them here.

I really enjoy the making and creating of things (obviously), so I am looking forward to more wedding projects to see what I like best!

silver and gold…. no, just gold.

Who said pumpkins are just for fall?

We spray painted all the things gold. For the pumpkins, we spray painted them, cut some decorative holes, and made them into festive lanterns. We also gold-ified some squashes, pinecones, and branches. They all made lovely decorations for a very special occasion.spray paint all the things gold pumpkins gold gourdsgold pumpkin lanterns

a plaid christmas tree

Over the weekend, I started to panic when I realized that we didn’t really have any Christmas ornaments! So you know, I just whipped some up real quick like so the tree wouldn’t be naked.

I decided on a plaid Christmas tree. It says Christmas, but we could also use them as winter decorations later.

If you want to try to make your own, just draw a shape onto the fabric. I used some cookie cutters as patterns. I sandwiched the fabric with some batting and a little ribbon or twine, and then sewed on the outline. Then I took some pinking shears and cut out the shape. Tie a little bow or knot, and you’re done.

And because I can’t stop, won’t stop, I fashioned a plaid star for the tree topper too.plaid christmas 5

salt dough ornaments

Its almost time to start thinking of holidays, but not quite yet. I am a firm believer that Christmas starts after Thanksgiving.

These salt dough ornaments are a good intro into holiday time. They don’t scream Christmas, but they probably wouldn’t kick Christmas out of bed for eating crackers either.

I used this recipe here. On the stamped ornaments, I rubbed a little gold ink on the raised parts. Very classy. I also made animal shapes. Because elephants are cute.
