You will all be pleased to know that I finished his stocking with a day to spare! Unfortunately, baby’s first Christmas Eve coincided with baby’s first cold. But I know we will always remember taking turns rocking him back to sleep that night, and being the first ones up to see the Christmas sun and drink hot chocolate. Little guy was such a good sport about all the present opening and photos, and he made the holiday so special, runny nose and all.
I didn’t finish his first ornament in time to get it on the tree, but I did finish it in December, so I’m counting it. I embroidered his name and the year on the back, and it may even be the beginning of a little tradition of ornament making each year…
My favorite 5-year-old is about to become my favorite 6-year-old. I like to take these times as an excuse to make something I don’t normally make, usually dolls. She is obviously having a Frozen themed party (at the pool), so I made her some princesses. We also have to get her a couple other little things, since I know there comes an age where homemade dolls aren’t really gonna cut it. But we got her a pink scooter last year, so we can’t really top that anyway.
Because this bird is made of felt, and is not that demanding. These little parrots took some time to make, but it was really fun watching them get pieced together. Plus they are super colorful and happy looking. The pattern is from this book full of bird crafts, because when their chirping wakes you at the crack of dawn, we have to be reminded that birds are still pretty cool.
If I am in the middle of a project, and it isn’t going well, I have a tendency to jump into a pit of despair pretty quickly. Yesterday I was on the edge of that pit, but then I thought to myself: hey, you are still good at making cookies. So make cookies is what I did.
Chocolate and cherry is a good combo for Valentine’s day, since cherries are red and feel more festive. I loosely followed this recipe, and without the annoying chilling the dough overnight part. These would be the kind of cookie you could package up and give out for happy heart day presents.
The cherry heart gift tags are a new creation of mine. You can find the kits in my shop!
These ribbons are only if your wedding guests are the very best, like ours were. I started making them as a busy project a couple months beforehand. It was one of those instantly gratifying projects. I first got the idea when I made this ribbon for my ma. And my ma is always my inspiration.
I took some leftover fabric scraps from some other wedding decorations, and I made a million yo-yos. I then scrounged up some felt in coordinating colors, and glued on the extra bits. I attached a pin back to the back of the ribbon.
On wedding day, we put them all in berry baskets by the wedding programs. It made me very happy to see everyone wearing them!
