Wedding invitation inspiration

As most people know, the girl and I are in the midst of some major wedding planning efforts! It’s been pretty fun so far and the girl has taken the lead on lending her creativity to designing our save the dates and wedding invitations. So to spark some creativity, we went down to the Paper Source the other week here in Austin. It’s a pretty cool store and it seemed like they had a paper for any occasion!

The two below are ones I found as I was flipping through a huge binder of wedding invitation samples that caught my eye and I kind of liked because I respect a good font and color combo.

It’s the little things in life

I found a new way to carry my empty travel coffee mug home from work. It made me pretty happy inside for no real reason other than the fact that it’s always important to enjoy the little things in life. And it let me be hands-free to text the girl when I leave the office.

Personalized coffee pods

I love coffee and I have been lucky enough to have been able to introduce the girl to the joy of coffee and now we drink it together every morning (which is always one of the best parts of my day). While at work the other day, I was making some coffee and I was making some Starbuck’s Pikes Place coffee and it reminded me of the girl and our wedding planning efforts because we’re planning on getting married in her hometown which is some-what nearby and I got to thinking…it would be super cool if you could make your own personal “brand” of coffee and get custom coffee pods that you crafted your own flavor and taste to.

Is this something that is already done? If not, I claim the rights to this idea right now.

Doughnuts for breakfast meetings at work

The girl made these super bomb baked expresso glazed doughnuts this week and they were delicious. She was super nice and made extra ones for me to take to work and let me tell you, they were a hit! I had some early 8 a.m. meetings and they were gone within the hour. I think that the people at work found them to be a pleasant surprise and made an early morning meeting just a little bit sweeter. And to top it all off, they fit perfectly in the container like it was meant to be.

resourcefulness

Have you ever played with mural.ly? It is designed for online visual collaborations. I used it once a few months ago, and when I was trying to imagine wedding colors, it came to my mind again. The guy can’t imagine colors quite as easily as I can, so I wanted to make something visual that he could play around with.

I started by taking screenshots of individual color swatches. I used the cute heart swatches from here. I added them into a mural.ly board, and then started mixing and matching! It made it super easy to move colors around and try different combinations, compare the “feel” of each palette, and it was much easier for the guy to see what I was talking about.

I don’t know if the people at mural.ly envisioned the tool being used for wedding planning, but I could definitely see myself narrowing down my wedding pinterest board into one mood board to share with the guy for inspiration!

doughnuts for dessert

A couple days ago, I tried making these oatmeal cookie pie things. The cookie part of them turned out pretty awesome despite the weird ingredients, but I could not make the filling part work. I tried twice and used up all the milk. My guess is I didn’t beat the butter and sugar enough, but I whipped it up for like 10 minutes. I am still kinda bitter about it, but whatever.

But the universe made it up to me yesterday and gave me these doughnuts. My guy has been working awfully late this week, and I knew he would enjoy a baked espresso glazed doughnut. I switched it up a little bit, and made baked doughnut “holes” (aka I used a whoopie pie pan to make baby doughnuts). I also used gold sprinkles on top since I didn’t have any chocolate ones. The guy loved them, as did all the coworkers who enjoyed them this morning.

flowers and dump trucks

I am lucky that I babysit two of the cutest kids in the world. I have known them since they were born, so it has been a treat to watch them grow into tiny 4-year-old and 2-year-old people.

Little Miss Zoe was a no-brainer here, since she loves pink and girly things, which is perfect for a flower girl. She already thinks she gets to be a princess in the wedding.flower girl

But Noah was a bit of a thinker. There are no good ring-bearer things, since weddings are a little girly anyway, and two-year-old boys like cars and throwing things. So I came up with a little dump truck, and went with the “carry” theme. Get it???ring bearer truck

a card for a bridesmaid

You know all those cute little “Will you be my bridesmaid?” cards you see now? Well, I want that. I like the idea of doing something a little special. Its a big deal to me to get married, so hopefully it is a big deal for my besties. (I have it in my head that everyone hates being a bridesmaid. I blame the movies. I think its totally awesome.)

Anyway, I always love the peachy pink Rifle Paper Co. ones when I see them. (Even though it totally says yo instead of you, right?)

But I wanted them like right now, and didn’t want to wait for the shipping, so I played around with a little sketch of my own with marker and stamps. This is what my half-done version looked like:

But then I realized that I could be a little more creative than that. Sometimes I spend too much time browsing at things that are already made, and I just need that one moment of thought to spur a good idea. So I came up with something that was more me. And it features one of my most favorite crafts! I will share it here soon, but I just mailed them and don’t want to ruin the surprise.
