I’m not sure it technically counts, since I just modified an existing recipe, but I have been telling everyone who will listen that I made my own cookie recipe. I am very good at following recipes, but I am not always as good at knowing what will taste good together, and what ratio they should go together at. But I took my best guess, and they turned out so good! I used this recipe, did a couple minor tweaks, and subbed in some oatmeal for some flour, and added butterscotch chips for chocolate. It has actually been cooler, wetter weather around here, and something about butterscotch and oatmeal seemed appropriate for the season!
Have you ever made up your own recipe? I feel like I need to have at least a couple of my very own recipes, so I can pass them along when I am a grandma.

small success
I attempted bagel making yesterday, and made the best discovery. I found the place in the house that dough likes the best! It only took 3 months of experimenting, but it likes it best on the floor in the bedroom by the laundry basket next to the window. Success!!
BUT… I got caught up in how magnificent the dough was, and I totally forgot to oil or flour the pan when I let them do the second rise. So they stuck all over, they wouldn’t let go of my fingers, and most deflated trying to get them into the boiling water, so they came out a hot mess. I think the taste and texture really have potential though, so I will try again, with all the knowledge combined!
pin to table
Like farm to table, except it started as a pin… get it??
Here are some of my recipe pins that I am excited to try soon. Quinoa and blueberries for breakfast. Sweet and salty bagels. Shrimp and grits. Gluten-free almond coconut cookies. Let me know what you are cooking up this weekend!
PS: I just hit 2,000 pins this morning! How exciting for me!
Double PS: Isn’t it the worst when you see something, and it leads to nowhere? I assure you that all pins that I can remember have been tried and tested.
roasted brussels sprouts
We made roasted brussels sprouts the other day. Pat ourselves on the back, these are pretty yummy veggies.
We did the basic cover in olive oil, salt, and pepper, and stick them in a hot oven until they looked good enough to eat.
I am thinking of planting brussels sprouts in our (still imaginary) garden. They are some crazy looking plants. Delicious, but crazy.
not quite everything bagels
There is something so satisfying about kneading dough. Also, it is a great arm workout, especially after you just did an hour of yoga and have rubber band arms.
We made “everything” bagels. The guy was in charge of putting the holes in the bagels, and making the spices and such to go on top. We used salt, sesame seeds, and some minced garlic. It was our first time making bagels, and it wasn’t really that hard at all. We followed these directions mostly, and ours turned out really good. We ate them fresh with a little cream cheese. Bagelicious.
blueberry muffins
I could eat a blueberry muffin every day of my life, and not be mad about it. Who could possibly be mad about that? I bet this little one would be super happy about it.
And even though the muffin cups have dinosaurs, no dinosaurs are in the actual muffin.
peanut butter likes honey
I don’t eat a lot of honey. Not that I don’t like it, but it is just very sticky.
I know about the peanut butter and honey combo, but it has never popped into my head to make peanut butter and honey cookies. It is a true revelation. I just replaced half the butter and sugar in the recipe with some honey, and it adds a little something magical. The dough did get progressively slimy, and the cookies got flatter and flatter as I made more batches, but look at those nooks and crannies. Try them!
chicken and biscuits
We got the genius idea to make chicken and biscuits for breakfast last weekend. I made the biscuits and honey butter, and the guy took care of the chicken. Do you see the flaky layers of those biscuits? Its like they are welcoming the chicken home. We used this recipe here.
too cold for ice cream?
At our house, it is never too cold for ice cream. Especially the homemade kind. This is cinnamon ice cream from this book. I have never made legit ice cream before, and I was very pleased how it turned out. We put it on top of some warm, apple pie so we stayed nice and cozy.
