I don’t know know how the girl does it, but she always knows what I need! For Christmas present #4 I was on the road on a work trip and I needed something to write with and right before I went to some gift shop to buy some, I got some super awesome fine tip pens! What a pleasant surprise.

Christmas Present #2
I have always been a bit jealous inside of this very soft and warm looking pair of socks that the girl has and wears around the house when it’s cold outside….but I am jealous no more! For surprise #2 I got a pair of moose socks that I’ve already started wearing around the house. Happy days!
what I bought at the mall today
I volunteered to be in charge of the gift donation drive at work this year. I “adopted” some kids from a local organization, made the little angel tree with the ornaments, and waited. Pretty soon, we had mountains of presents, and a bunch of donated money to buy the rest of the gifts.
I went to the mall this morning to search for a pair of shoes, and a kind of perfume, and an iPod, and other little gifts on their lists. But I hope it wasn’t really “things” I was buying. I hope that I spent that donated money to help the kids feel like someone cares about them. That someone is on their side and thinks they deserve to be happy.
It makes my heart happy that some people are good, and remember what Christmas is for.

Baa baa blue curly horned sheep. (new in the Little Amaryllis shop)
a plaid christmas tree
Over the weekend, I started to panic when I realized that we didn’t really have any Christmas ornaments! So you know, I just whipped some up real quick like so the tree wouldn’t be naked.
I decided on a plaid Christmas tree. It says Christmas, but we could also use them as winter decorations later.
If you want to try to make your own, just draw a shape onto the fabric. I used some cookie cutters as patterns. I sandwiched the fabric with some batting and a little ribbon or twine, and then sewed on the outline. Then I took some pinking shears and cut out the shape. Tie a little bow or knot, and you’re done.
And because I can’t stop, won’t stop, I fashioned a plaid star for the tree topper too.
We decorated the tree at night by Christmas tree light, while drinking hot chocolate.
new in the shop: little snowman
He loves hot chocolate, but just can’t have too much! (new in the Little Amaryllis shop)
playing santa
I was looking at the Christmas angel tree for the Salvation Army, and there is one little boy who stole my heart. He is near 5 years old, and likes Spiderman and toy trucks. These little trucks are adorable. If the boy is still on the tree tomorrow, I think he should be ours!
where in the world
I have a thing for maps recently. Maybe because I have the travel bug. But they really are beautiful, and make me appreciate that we are a small part of a big world. We finally decided to decorate our big wall, and hung a vintage style map right next to the tv.
Here are some other fun maps:
salt dough ornaments
Its almost time to start thinking of holidays, but not quite yet. I am a firm believer that Christmas starts after Thanksgiving.
These salt dough ornaments are a good intro into holiday time. They don’t scream Christmas, but they probably wouldn’t kick Christmas out of bed for eating crackers either.
I used this recipe here. On the stamped ornaments, I rubbed a little gold ink on the raised parts. Very classy. I also made animal shapes. Because elephants are cute.
