sewing a shirt

I am sewing my first shirt! It is a button-up shirt, with a yoke, and sleeves, and everything. I love the idea of sewing some of my own clothes, so I am pumped to start practicing! I am instagramming some of the different stages, if you want to follow along. I got my fingers crossed that it will actually fit once I am finished!

happy new year cards

According to the internet, we were probably supposed to get some adorable professional photos taken for Christmas for our newlywed year. And then we were supposed to send out a sweet holiday card to everyone that would arrive the week before. But instead, we spent the most of December attending parties, and then skipped town. No regrets.

But I do love a good Christmas card. And I know that I can only use wedding photos for so long before other people get tired of them. Solution: happy new year cards

newyearcard2

I made them in similar style to our wedding invites, and used one of my favorite photos from our wedding. I love them, so I hope our family is happy to see them in the mail soon! I will have a slightly similar pattern of card available in my etsy shop soon!newyearcard3 newyearcard

so clutch

I whipped up this trio of clutches right before Christmas, and they made perfect little gifts. Especially if you put a couple extra fun things inside each one. The fruit one went to my sister, along with an apple pie plate. Because I am clever like that.

I used this pattern here (for free!), and they came together really fast. I might make up a couple more with some extra fabric, to have on hand in case I am in a giving mood!envelopepurse1 envelopepurse2 envelopepurse3

all done

How does it look? After about 4 months, my first afghan is done! I finished all the granny squares about a month ago, and I decided on Friday afternoon to binge finish sewing it all together. So I settled in on the couch and weaved in all those pesky ends all night.grannysquareafghan2

So far, its been a very helpful, cozy extra layer of warmth during the cold nights. It was made for serious snuggling.grannysquareafghan1

Now time to start another one!

pretty pretty princesses

My sister needed a present to give to a little girl, and these are what she wanted to make. Sometimes, people say that they want to make something, and then somehow, I end up doing a lot of it. And you might not be able to tell from the picture, but these things are tiny, wee, little dolls.

I may have complained the entire way through making these, but really inside, I was not mad at all. Because look at their little faces, and their hair. You can’t be angry at that.

There are tutorials all over the internet of how to make these, in case you need some of your own.

gift idea: tiny plants

How cute are these little plants? I found them at a local plant store. For a simple gift, I wrapped each container in a bit of fabric and ribbon I already had.

I gave these little guys out at work to brighten up desk spaces, and I think they would also be fun for party favors or hostess gifts! tinyplants1 tinyplants3

While I was packaging them up, I found this guy just hanging around. Like so tiny, y’all. Teeny tiny.tinyplants2

cold december nights

During this cold spell, we have been doing all the cozy things you are supposed to do.

We spent a lazy evening watching a movie and eating dessert in our fuzzy socks.weekend12.8.2

gettin all christmasy up in here

We decided on (impulse bought) a tiny real tree this year. You can’t beat that Christmas tree smell. We used our plaid fabric ornaments and some gingerbread men to decorate it. christmas tree

Since the tree was just a little guy, we had some extra lights left over, so we put them around the house. The lighting makes the house look so cozy.

I also just finished up this cross stitch. Gotta have those festive dish towels.gb-man crossstitch

my first scarf

Ta-da! My first crocheted scarf. It turned out pretty stellar, if I may compliment myself. I would totally be wearing it right now if it wasn’t reminiscent of a warm spring day outside.crochetscarf

I am not, by any definition of the word expert, an expert crocheter. But my ma helped me out semi-following these directions, and I got some help from this youtube lady here. After just a couple minutes of watching, I was crocheting so much faster than her (if you watch the video, this would be a joke).

It only took about an evening to make, so scarves for everyone!crochetscarf2
