My latest granny square blanket! In the past, I usually just sew my squares together with needle and yarn, but I tried joining them with a single crochet this time. I know there are lots of fancy ways to join squares, so I figured I might as well start working my way up. I really love how it turned out, especially the colors. What are you working on lately?

winter things to make
I’ve only lived here for a handful of years, but I feel like this winter is colder than usual. I hardly ever remember walking around campus for more than a day or so when it was really cold. I don’t mind the chilly season at all, but our house is on the cold-blooded side. If its hot, its hot. If its cold, its cold. So we’ve been layering on blankets and our winter clothes. This would be a pretty blanket to add to our collection, and this is a cozy winter hat to keep our ears warms.
mario blanket
I made this Mario blanket for my brother for Christmas. Since Mario is already made out of pixels, it is made out of tiny granny squares sewn together. It took some time and lots of counting, but I think everyone was impressed with the final result.
(Also, its pretty big and this isn’t my best photography work.)
texas flag blanket
I made up this blanket pattern as a wedding present a couple months ago. I wanted to try something new, and also, someday their future kids will make a fort with it.
So far, I’ve only made granny square blankets. I hope to branch out soon, but when you are going off the grid, sometimes its good to stick with what you know. The flag is mostly straight lines, so that part was easy enough, but the star. The star was the tough part. It had to be a 5-pointed star. I needed it to be the right size. I think there was a large, sad pile of discarded stars after I was done.
I ended up following a youtube video for this star. I figured out to outline the star in blue, so I could sew it on without obvious stitch marks.
It crocheted up pretty quickly, so you still have time if you need another Christmas present idea!
a flower afghan
This blanket was a special present for my Ma, who likes black-eyed susans (which is a super awesome name for a flower).
I have a couple more crochet projects in mind, but I might start a little scrap granny square quilt too, to use up some of my leftover bits.
all done
How does it look? After about 4 months, my first afghan is done! I finished all the granny squares about a month ago, and I decided on Friday afternoon to binge finish sewing it all together. So I settled in on the couch and weaved in all those pesky ends all night.
So far, its been a very helpful, cozy extra layer of warmth during the cold nights. It was made for serious snuggling.
Now time to start another one!
