In preparation for the freezing weather, I went to the store and bought like a week’s worth of dinners. Because no one wants to risk the grocery store parking lot in the ice. So hopefully we won’t be forced to leave home much until the sun returns. But this guy doesn’t seem to mind the cold at the moment. Roses are red, bluebonnets are blue, please don’t freeze, it will be spring soon!

trip to enchanted rock
Last weekend, we took an adventure day to go climb up Enchanted Rock. We went all the way up to the top. I was a little terrified coming back down, but we made it round trip in one piece!
It was a nice, sunny day, with a little bit of chill in the wind. We were glad we had long sleeves when we got to the summit. The wind up there was cold on our ears.
When you are this far away, you think, oh it doesn’t look that steep. Extremely deceiving. Like a stair stepper times a hundred, plus the added danger of falling off the side.
We took a different route home and stopped for some bbq. The meat here is good, but they don’t have pickles on the side. Instead they have jalepenos. Just in case pickles with your bbq is a deciding factor.
We made it home in the afternoon, and then took a nice nap. All that danger and sandwiches made us sleepy.
february gardening
Like any good tiny business owner staring out the window at the perfect weather outside, I’ve done all my work in the morning, and spent the afternoon tending the yard and getting ready for our spring garden. I count it as getting my fresh air, exercise, and helping my legs not look so winter pale.
Our winter garden is still growing along. We haven’t bought lettuce in forever. Our herbs are getting to be pretty impressive too.
Have you ever grown cauliflower? Maybe we accidentally picked a fancy variety, or maybe it turns white later??
I inadvertently picked a baby carrot while weeding. I was positive that none of the carrots made it through the colder months, so I was excited to see it anyway!
And we already have some spring peas growing! Nothing like peas straight from the vine.
We still have some garden beds to prepare, but we are hoping to be all ready to plant our tomatoes the first week in March. At least a month earlier than we got them in the ground last year, and we are hoping it makes for even more tomatoes!
super bowl ad hashtags
Our team did not win the game (boo), and our MVPs were the dancing halftime sharks.
But we had a good time playing the commercial hashtag game! I imagine some people would have to be very bored to actually use some of these, but that run like a girl commercial just about made me cry. So for your information, here is a list of all the advertising hashtags from the Super Bowl:

Some of them didn’t put in a whole lot of effort to even bother with a hashtag. And we think real life Pac-Man deserved its own. And there you have our commentary on the ad hashtags of Super Bowl 49.
weekend snaps
The weather this weekend was top notch. The first couple days of nice weather after the cold and dreary should be a holiday. We spent much time running around doing errands and visiting, but we also spent quite a bit of time outside doing some sprucing up. All the 75 and sunny had me thinking it was time to go get some more flowers, but alas, who knows what the sky will do next week.
weekend snaps
The majority of the weekend was spent finishing a large order, but we still managed to have one of those simple, wonderful weekends. It was rainy, grey, and almost freezing- so perfect movie watching weather. Not too many pictures, but lots of time together. One of my favorite parts of the weekend was our gym and bagel date.
a new resolution
Most of our resolutions are the normal boring things, like drink enough water, eat our vegetables- the normal good habits. One of my not quite as boring resolutions this year is to keep a journal. Last year, I used a little calendar as a journal. I would just make some short notes of what I worked on that day, anything we did together. Just a couple words to fit in the calendar date box. But this year I am giving myself a little more room with a big girl journal. Lots of blank space for words and pictures, and maybe even some photos.
have a hap hap happy new year
winter garden update
I spent most of my time this week finishing up my last orders, and organizing all the Christmas presents. Not much time on the internet this week (although this video is amazing). But do you know where I do spend my free daytime? Our garden.
We had a little caterpillar issue. I think we caught it early enough, and now all the plants seem to be really growing. Those little buggers though. They wake up, and just go to town chomping on plants.
We made our garden beds straight into the ground this season, so its been a constant fight to keep the weeds and fallen leaves from interfering with our growing salads.
But our hard work is definitely paying off! We had some fresh rainbow chard this week, chives on our baked potatoes, and arugula with our scrambled eggs.
christmas light date
Over the weekend, we went on a date to Mozart’s to see the Christmas lights. Fun fact: We found out about all the lights there the night we got engaged. This time, we got there right before it started getting dark, and drank our hot chocolate in peace outside before all the hoards of families came to join us.
We BYOCC and put baby candy canes in our hot chocolate.
The light show is half amazing technical feat, and half cheesy Christmas fun. Even the normal display that doesn’t move is still pretty impressive, and very Austin-themed!
