things that caught my eye/ eighteen

Some things I found this week:

This week was a pretty good one. We had a bread and cheese dinner, I gave my first sewing lesson, we tidied and refreshed the yard a little, and spent a lovely evening with some friends. Let’s continue this good trend into the weekend, shall we?

Here is a picture of the baby garden. This was little over a month ago, pre-growth spurt, back when the tomatoes still fit in their cages.

something i did today

simplethings1

I always tell Jon that the simple things I do during the day give me the most meaning. Makes me the most happy. So I thought I might chronicle them here. Today, I played in the dirt and transplanted some sad looking basil to what I hope will be a more pleasing home for them.

Are you a member of the simpler things club? What did you do today?

Some things I found this week:

I can’t really believe that we will be married a whole year on Sunday. We are gonna spend the weekend doing everything we like to do together. Y’all have a good one! And here’s a picture of a tiny strawberry we grew with love, sunshine, and water.

floral summer shirt

Making good progress on the cute summer shirt collection over here! This week I added a floral sleeveless top, with a peter pan collar, and an asymmetrical hemline for a flowy, breezy look.

The fabric is a lightweight cotton for summer, and I like the watercolor look of the floral print. I also like that this is one of those kinds of pattens where, if I drip ice cream or something, its not completely noticeable (depending on the flavor of ice cream).

I read the directions wrong for the collar. I doubt it would have made much of a difference, and no one would be able to tell, but I would know. So out the stitches came.sleevelessshirt2

And then it looked so much better the correct way, right???sleevelessshirt3

And now, a grainy photo of the shirt being modeled. I ended up taking it in a bit on the sides because it was tooo flowy, but I am real happy with it now. I might add a couple little buttons near the collar too.  (Please note the height of the tomato plants. They used to just be babies!)

Some things I found this week:

We have been getting about 8 peas a day from our little patch. We have a million green tomatoes, so hopefully we will have a million ripe tomatoes soon. I’m also starting sewing on a new shirt. I’m trying a new kind of fabric, so cross your fingers that the sewing machine likes it.

Some things I found this week:

If it doesn’t rain again, we are going to try to go kayaking, and do a little sunbathing to get rid of these obvious farmer tans we are rocking. Then our weekend will be filled with the normal things like mowing the lawn, grocery shopping, watching all the xmen movies in chronological order, and taking pictures of our plants.purpleflowers

basil lemon water

We planted a whole bunch of basil this spring. We read that bugs tend to not like the smell of it, or maybe the strong smell just confuses them. The smell mostly makes me hungry, so those bugs are really missing out. We have basil growing in a box on the back porch, some in the herb garden in the front yard, and some in containers near the vegetable garden. So now, we have a list of basil recipes to try for the next couple months.

One of the new recipes we tried was simple lemon and basil infused water. We cut up some lemon slices and added some basil leaves to ice water for a nice, refreshing drink. Pretty to look at, too.

how does your garden grow

It is like magic watching a garden grow. One day, its a tiny little plant. And then you look again, its two feet taller or growing food. Ah-mazing.

I’ve been fondly scrolling through garden photos from 2 weeks ago, and seeing how much they have grown. I can only imagine what I will be like when I have a real baby.

There are a couple new notebooks in the shop to keep track of garden progress, planting plans, or grocery lists!
