that one time i actually participated in sxsw

The guy won some tickets to a SXSW concert, so we decided to take a little impromptu adventure into that craziness!

We went European and walked a couple blocks to the bus stop, and then rode the bus downtown. It was nice to get some walking in, and the weather was good for it too. It actually wasn’t overwhelmingly crazy downtown. We got to stand in the VIP line, because we were so important, so that probably helped a bit. I am not a tall person, so I sometimes get super overwhelmed in crowds. We had a really fun evening of people watching, music enjoying, and laser light shows!

I stole most of these photos from the guy’s insta-g. He was a most artistic and handsome photographer for our evening.

sourdough/ week six

This week was date bread. Dates are one of those foods I always forget that I like, but then I start sampling them and I remember.

I went a tiny bit off recipe for this one. The recipe is for a two-pound loaf, and I wanted to try halfing it. I also wanted to sub in some whole wheat flour too. I suppose dates and pecans are kinda heavy, so if I wanted more rise, all normal flour would have been the way to go. But I don’t mind dense breads at all.date and pecan breadThe loaf turned out a little small in the bread pan, because it was only one pound, but it had a nice shape. It did turn out a little bit dense, but still soft. I was going to take a picture of our toast this morning for the after, but once they were toasted, I put some butter and cinnamon and sugar on it, and it was basically the best thing I’ve eaten in a week. Good thing I have another slice in the morning to look forward to.

football scrapbook

Let’s see… I graduated from UT 4 years ago, so these pictures are at least that old. And I have been hoarding a box of football/Texas scrapbooking supplies for about that long too. My new computer is much faster for sifting through photos, so I finally got to work on printing some out, and making that college football scrapbook.

While I was picking out photos, I was thinking about how college is a weird time. Some of the people are still your very best friends, and then some you never see again. Such is life. It was still fun to look through the memories.footballscrapbook1

Since there were so many photos I wanted to include, I basically grouped them into collages on the computer, printed them on photo paper, and then cut them out, keeping the collage in tact. That way I didn’t have to place every photo separately, and I could still use all the hoarded papers, and stickers, and other supplies.footballscrapbook2

If it looks like a football themed scrapbook store threw up on the pictures, good. That is exactly what I was going for. I just wanted to have fun using all the toys. Its nice to just make whatever pops into your head, and if it doesn’t turn out just right, I just tape something better over it.

things that caught my eye this week/ five

fridayyarn

Some things I found this week:

This is one of those weekends where everybody in the world comes to Austin to be all Austin-y. So I am going to bunker down at the homestead, make some like biscuits or something, and watch every episode of Sherlock again. And since I know what is going to happen, maybe I won’t hyperventilate so much this time.

preparing for summer sewing

summerclothes1

I had to make an emergency yarn run yesterday, so I stopped by the pattern department for a quick look. We are actually still in cold weather here in the heart of Texas, but it won’t be long before the sun is burning us alive. I started thinking that I should probably start sewing up some summer items now, so they are ready for battle when the time comes!summerclothes2summerclothes3summerclothes4summerclothes5summerclothes6summerclothes7summerclothes8summerclothes9summerclothes10summerclothes11

sourdough/ week five

practice 1

This week’s loaf is the classic wheat. Delicious and nutritious. We’ve eaten it as toast mostly, but I have a panzanella recipe that I am hoping to try tonight!

I have also been reading this book, and I am right in the middle of the air section. Super nerding out on the history of grains and such. I’ve been keeping the starter in the fridge and feeding it every week, and it works perfectly fine, but I might try a little experiment. Just to see what it does, I’m gonna try keeping it a little warmer and feeding it more frequently. I know everyone is eagerly awaiting the results.wheatbread

weekends rock

Figuratively and literally. In between the rain showers, we were able to get outside and get to work on laying our rocks. I am forever thankful that the guy and I make a very good team! We aren’t quite half done yet, but so far, it it is going a lot easier, and looks much better, than we both thought. Its like giant Tetris, with a lot more shoveling.
