Our first anniversary had two parts. Part one was the peach-iversary. Part two, the beach-iversary.
We hopped in the car on Sunday morning, with the most perfect Oregon coast weather over our heads, and bellies ready to be filled with ice cream. On Monday morning, that misty ocean fog greeted us, and we had the whole beach to ourselves. I can’t wait to bring back a pack of Sanders someday, and we’ll collect every piece of sand dollar, and make this handsome guy of mine rinse off the shells in the cold ocean water.
We are back from a nice, extra long holiday weekend. Couple memories from this year:
1. Frosting cookies for America.
2. Cherries all day long.
3. The smell of apple pie.
4. Coordinating red, white, and blue outfits with my love.
5. Pre-fireworks cloud show.

I have a little niece who is turning two, which gives me a perfect excuse to make a doll. My first choice would have required me to go to the store (boo), but good thing I had an equally good plan b picked out! We had a little animal version of these dolls when I was little. Did you ever have something like this? I think the little one will like putting them to bed, and then waking them up again, on repeat.
The original pattern wanted the dolls to be 8″ big. I shrunk them down by half, so they were twice as hard to make with all the little pieces, but will be twice as portable for little purses.
Now that the hairstyles are all sorted, time for bed!
Eat a good old American flag cake, while watching fireworks in red, white, and blue.
Halfway through the year, and we already baked up (at least) 12 loaves of sourdough! Sticking with this project feels like an accomplishment, since each loaf takes quite a bit of time and care, or at least the time to remember its there and to move on to the next step! Really makes you appreciate the work and love that goes into a good loaf of bread.
This week, we made a raisin rye sourdough bread, and tried out my new diy proofing box!
Our new proofing box! Which is actually just a large tupperware container. After an hour proofing at room temperature, I boil some water in a little mason jar, then put the bread and the jar into the tupperware, and close the lid up. The water is supposed to make it a bit warmer and more moist, to help with flavor and rise. By no means a controlled environment, but we are working up to it!
For a rye bread, I would say we got some pretty good lift out of it! I also think it is one of the prettiest loaves of bread we have made so far. We gave it away as a gift, but we received very good reviews! Excited to make a loaf to keep soon so we can try it for ourselves.
This happy little rhino is available in the shop (after the holiday weekend!). Looks like he polished his horn up, and did his hair to the side. Awfully handsome.
Today, I spent some time in the garden, and noticed all the bees and ladybugs cheering the plants along.
I am proud of this one because 1. Its a silky fabric I’m not used to sewing, and it didn’t bite me. and 2. I made the pattern for the tulip sleeves myself! I used this tutorial for some help, and used my street sewing smarts.
I took a moment to add a hot pink button, because I could and I did.
Fluttery tulip sleeves in action! I always text Jon a picture of what I’m sewing, because he always gets so excited. I didn’t quite match the stripes on the side, but I think they matched up pretty well from the back view. Patting myself on the back for a job well done.
