still winter

There are puddles forming in the yard, and I’ve got multiple layers on. So fickle, the faux spring weather of last weekend. This hat was a gift for one of my best friends, made while it was freezing out, given while it was sunny and 70, and hopefully getting a couple more uses now before spring. My favorite part is the fancy pom pom.

Hope y’all enjoy a nice weekend! We have a movie date scheduled, and biscuits to make. And lots of naps to take.

texas flag blanket

I made up this blanket pattern as a wedding present a couple months ago. I wanted to try something new, and also, someday their future kids will make a fort with it.

So far, I’ve only made granny square blankets. I hope to branch out soon, but when you are going off the grid, sometimes its good to stick with what you know. The flag is mostly straight lines, so that part was easy enough, but the star. The star was the tough part. It had to be a 5-pointed star. I needed it to be the right size. I think there was a large, sad pile of discarded stars after I was done.

I ended up following a youtube video for this star. I figured out to outline the star in blue, so I could sew it on without obvious stitch marks.

It crocheted up pretty quickly, so you still have time if you need another Christmas present idea!

new hats

I like to have multiple projects going on. If I’m making card kits all day, I need to take a sewing break. If I’m making a quilt, I need to take some drawing breaks. This also usually results in separate messes all over the room, but you can’t win em all.

My newest obsession is hat making. I made a hat, took it apart, and repeated that 4 times before I found a pattern I actually liked. I made a big pom pom for my hat, and Jon gets the green one, which I will gladly pom pom with his approval.

Hopefully it will stay cooler a little bit longer so we can take a cute picture together in our matching hats!

sick days

It seems like I always get a bad cold right around this time of year, every year. I forget how much of a bummer it is to have a cold.

So I’ve been drinking tea, and trying to work on a quilt. I also forgot how much math is involved in quilt making, and how hard it is to do math when your head is fuzzy.

halloweavings

I almost bought some candy corn at the store today. I like about 3 candy corns, and then my teeth start to cry. But they remind me of Halloween, so I still want them for decoration. We still need to get some pumpkins, and then we can get out the rest of the decorations! This year, I added some silly weavings to our Halloween collection. A black cat and a bright moon to hang on the wall.

frozen

My favorite 5-year-old is about to become my favorite 6-year-old. I like to take these times as an excuse to make something I don’t normally make, usually dolls. She is obviously having a Frozen themed party (at the pool), so I made her some princesses. We also have to get her a couple other little things, since I know there comes an age where homemade dolls aren’t really gonna cut it. But we got her a pink scooter last year, so we can’t really top that anyway.

black floral tunic

I ripped this shirt apart more than once. The pattern is very long, and I should have tried it on before sewing on the gathered section (lesson learned). But I think I finally ended up with something wearable!

At first, I was a little nervous that it seemed too big all over, but it fits in the arm area, which keeps it from looking messy. The flowy look is also in right now, so I think it wouldn’t look too out of place if you saw it in a store. I’ve worn it to movie night with jeans, and felt super stylish.

sleeping bag dolls

I have a little niece who is turning two, which gives me a perfect excuse to make a doll. My first choice would have required me to go to the store (boo), but good thing I had an equally good plan b picked out! We had a little animal version of these dolls when I was little. Did you ever have something like this? I think the little one will like putting them to bed, and then waking them up again, on repeat.

The original pattern wanted the dolls to be 8″ big. I shrunk them down by half, so they were twice as hard to make with all the little pieces, but will be twice as portable for little purses.

Now that the hairstyles are all sorted, time for bed!
