festive fall

The leaves are definitely falling, and its time to figure out a tiny costume for the little guy. We always called him a little pumpkin while he was growing, but he would honestly look adorable in anything. Also, our oven has been broken, but as soon as it is repaired, we are so excited for all the baking (like that pear crisp) and roasting!

the great outdoors

Being outside really is great. Just a couple hours in the faux fall fresh air, and all my cares (except my constant worry about the state of the plants) slip away. I spent some time last week doing a little work around the yard.

There is no number high enough to describe the amount of times I have lost the clippers in the yard.

These flowers lost all their leaves at the end of summer, but they are making a strong comeback now.

I cleaned a bit of the gutter out, and a lizard almost killed me, but the view up there wasn’t too bad.

And to cap off an already pretty perfect day, frozen yogurt with my best friend.

the great pumpkin patch

This fall is the best because I got to take Jon to THE pumpkin patch! One of my very favorite places. Fall is best celebrated by stomping through a field of dirt and vines in search of the perfect pumpkin. And the smell of apples when you go into the barn is intoxicating. I would consider coming back as a fruit fly as long as I got to live in that barn.

Each year, the patch decorates pumpkins to go with a theme. This would be the coolest job. The theme was mythological creatures, and one of my favorites was Medusa, with her “snake” hair.

And there was also a chupacabra, with some flying chickens. Almost like my chupacabra.

I think pumpkins have found their way into our hearts due because they are all the same thing, but they all look different, which makes me believe they have feelings. Their own personality. Kind of like this pumpkin that I love and adore.

We picked out a couple pumpkins for my ma’s house, but we weren’t sure if a pumpkin would make it through airport security. So we’ll have to find a sincere pumpkin patch in Austin to visit. More pumpkins. Oh darn.

purple blooms

After a hot couple months, the flowers in our yard are coming to life again. And they definitely have a purple trend going.

Our neighbor was adamant that we wouldn’t be able to grow lavender, since she had no luck after several tries. We planted it anyway, and would you look at that.

These asters have been waiting patiently all summer for their time, and we were super surprised at how enthusiastically they bloomed. They literally stop traffic.

A relatively new addition to the yard, but jumped right onto the purple bandwagon.

This was an experimental planting, in a very shady area. Do you have those areas in your yard where you aren’t quite sure what will want to grow there? It seems to be working hard to survive. Bloom where you are planted, right?

new in the shop: pumpkin bracelets

One of my earliest obsessions was tiny things. Making little bitty clay foods. Dollhouses. Basically the more miniature, the better. Which is probably one of the many reasons I like making these little fabric bracelets. Sure, you could sew a large pumpkin. But why not sew a tiny wee pumpkin, and then wear it around? You can find these pumpkin bracelets in the shop!

halloweavings

I almost bought some candy corn at the store today. I like about 3 candy corns, and then my teeth start to cry. But they remind me of Halloween, so I still want them for decoration. We still need to get some pumpkins, and then we can get out the rest of the decorations! This year, I added some silly weavings to our Halloween collection. A black cat and a bright moon to hang on the wall.
