Did you do any baking last weekend? We wanted to make a pie for the long weekend, and we finally decided on chocolate cream. I topped it with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, and it looked really pretty, but everyone was so eager to dig in that I didn’t get a photo. It tasted even better than it looked!

summer vacation
I took a little trip to see my family last month. Besides going to the fair, we spent a lot of time in the garden, checking on the flowers, baking cookies and muffins, and playing with fabric. A nice little summer vacation.
weekend snaps
things that caught my eye/ twenty five
1. Prettiest tomatoes, and other collections. 2. I still love these posts because I am nosy, and for the illustrations. 3. Also love these scribbly type illustrations. 4. A gold dodo bird piñata for every occasion. 5. I would like to make a pair of shoes someday. What a cool skill to have.
Are y’all excited for the long weekend? College football is also returning, which is like a whole holiday on its own here. Our weekend will probably include bbq, lots of football, naps, and we have plans to make a pie, though we can’t decide on what kind. Have a safe one!
eat and wear
Eat this swirly chocolate frosted cake, and wear your hair wavy too.
frozen
My favorite 5-year-old is about to become my favorite 6-year-old. I like to take these times as an excuse to make something I don’t normally make, usually dolls. She is obviously having a Frozen themed party (at the pool), so I made her some princesses. We also have to get her a couple other little things, since I know there comes an age where homemade dolls aren’t really gonna cut it. But we got her a pink scooter last year, so we can’t really top that anyway.
so many biscuits
We’ve been testing different sourdough biscuit recipes. I wake up a tiny bit earlier, so I’ll have time to mix up a batch after our morning run. This part is crucial for controlling leftovers. No one in the office will turn down a warm, homemade biscuit first thing in the morning.
Our favorite biscuits are the super flaky ones, but we are still perfecting our ideal recipe. In the meantime, we need to stock up on more jam!

things that caught my eye/ twenty four
1. Some pretty wall inspiration. 2. Summer night dress pattern. 3. I don’t know where this is, but I want to be there now. 4. Intriguing book to add to my reading list. 5. Cute little french breads.
What are you up to this weekend? We are having a hot, lazy one over here, besides the two birthday parties in one evening. We are so popular.
the county fair
There is just something about the little county fair in my hometown. I love going back. Its all summertime and freedom, and high school kids walking around like they own the place. And then they grow up and have babies, and complain about what the new high school kids are wearing these days. Its the perfect cycle.
We took a little one to the parade who is just learning to wave, so naturally, we got all the candy. If you want sidewalk candy, take a toddler.
We always browse the fair entries. I like looking at the comments on the canned goods and jams. Because I am an old person inside.
Its fun to look in the animal barns. The kids are always sweeping, and the cages are decorated with signs and ribbons. Its nice to remember that there are farm animals that are treated with love and care.
This is an elephant ear. The only dessert you ever need at the fair. So messy, but so worth it.
