This little parade of desserts gets me. I haven’t practiced my fabric embroidery in a while, but I loved making this treat towel gift. It now lives in the home of someone who deserves a tiny dessert parade in their honor every day.

chocolate cream pie
Did you do any baking last weekend? We wanted to make a pie for the long weekend, and we finally decided on chocolate cream. I topped it with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, and it looked really pretty, but everyone was so eager to dig in that I didn’t get a photo. It tasted even better than it looked!
citrus pie
We made a version of this pie recently. We made a cookie crust instead, and used half lemon juice and half lime juice. It was a quick, sweet, bright summer treat. You definitely don’t want to skip the whip cream on top!
weekend snaps
coconut cream pie
We had our pie date at home last week. The pros to that arrangement are 1. We can eat pie in our lounge clothes and no one judges us. 2. We get to have the fun of making the pie. And all important 3. There is a whole pie for us to eat. The cons are 1. There is a whole pie for us to eat. Pie is a terrible thing to waste.
This time, the pros outweighed the cons, and I tried out a coconut cream pie. We did have a friend come over for a slice, but the rest of that pie was ours all ours.
pie date
We decided our summer thing (sometimes we skip spring here, so we need to plan early) is to go get pie. I LOVE pie. Pie is perfect. It fits any occasion, season, mood. Pie is happiness, and I want perfume that smells like it.
Our first pie adventure was to Quack’s Bakery. It was a not too warm evening, and we sat outside, sharing pie with friends. We shared a slice of peach pie and chocolate cream. And somehow the air vents wafted fresh pie right past our noses, and I wanted to camp in their parking lot forever.
(second photo from here) I was too busy deciding on types of pie to be bothered with photos.
what weekends are made of
We decided that this weekend was a pecan pie. Armed with a big bag of pecans, I got right to work on Saturday morning. Pecan pies scare me a little bit, since I didn’t grow up with them, and am not technically 100% sure what the consistency is supposed to be. But since my guy sure loves them, I need to teach myself to be unscared of them.
I followed part of the filling recipe from here. I like dark chocolate, and happened to have a bar of it.
We spent a lot of the weekend doing yardwork, which means you earn an extra big piece of pie in the evening. I think that is a rule somewhere.
made into a pie
The second group of spunky peaches were made into a pie. This pie was not without obstacles. Being 70% juice, the peaches started out by resisting their new pie occupation. But with careful preparation, and a prayer as we placed it in the oven, the peaches came together again, this time to make something that forever will remind me of summer.
my ma’s pie plate
You know how you have to have something just because your mom has it? I can’t possible make any more pies unless I have this pie plate.
