About Chelsea

I am a small town girl. I came to Austin to study at The University of Texas, and a very handsome boy sat behind me in class. I love baking, sewing, watching movies, laughing, and willing my plants to grow.

first day of spring skirt

Its the first day of spring, but the weather is playing it cool and acting like its not a big deal. I think a thunderstorm is predicted for later. But our newly planted seeds need some water anyway!

My second skirt for the upcoming season is this floral creation. I’ve already worn it a couple times. The pattern is super simple, and I added a little roundness to the hem in the back. A perfect breezy skirt for when it finally decides to be springtime.

watercolor flowers

I’ve come to the conclusion that the only thing I can watercolor paint is flowers. I’m ok with that. I needed to write some overdue thank you notes, so I painted a rainbow patch of flowers for the fronts of the cards. Hopefully the cheery flowers make up for the lateness.

happy st patrick’s day

We had Irish soda bread buns for breakfast, but we haven’t found any four-leaf clovers yet. In honor of today, I looked through some of our Ireland vacation pictures from a couple years ago. We made it to Dublin the morning after St Patrick’s Day, so we barely missed the greenest holiday in the greenest country. Many fond memories were made on this trip. Here are some pictures of us in front of the Irish Sea, the garden at the Dublin Castle, standing on a bridge overlooking Dublin, and St Patrick’s Cathedral. Don’t forget to wear your green!

the strawberry patch

We added a strawberry patch to the garden! Isn’t it just the cutest little patch you ever did see.

We made the planter ourselves with our creative gardening skills. I really wanted a tiered circular planter, to add some visual interest to the garden. We had a hard time finding one that fit my landscape vision, so we made our own using some garden edging. Now its perfect.

vintage find

Look at these beauties I found while cleaning out my closet back home!

overalls

Let’s bring overalls back into style this spring. I think maybe some shortening or rolling on these ones will give them an updated look. And here are a couple newer pairs so you can share the style. Happy springtime!

fun with felt

feltfun2

I took a half day off from fleece animals to try out some felt animals. Once I had a nice collection, I sent them off in the mail as surprises.

This was also one of those times when the crafting operation had to be moved to the floor, due to the table already being full. Its like having an upper table and a lower table.

burgers in austin: p. terry’s

If we ever are craving a “fast food” hamburger, we always go to P. Terry’s. We both get cheeseburgers, with the added pickles and onions, and we share an order of french fries. They have excellent crispy, hot fries. The burgers are the perfect size so you don’t end up extra full, and have the classic toppings. Mr. P. Terry makes all the food with fresh, natural ingredients, plus, we both get fed for under $10, and you can’t beat that. Sometimes, for an extra treat, we sit and chat for a bit after we eat to make room for milkshakes. Or we make an evening drive-through milkshake detour on our way home from the gym.

tea with honey

In the chilly mornings before the sun warms up the house, I try to drink some green tea. Lately, I’ve been adding honey to my mug too. So it turns into mostly hot honey water. Gotta love those bees!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend, full of good activities! I’m hoping to sew another skirt, have lunch with friends, and if the weather is nice, get some tomatoes to plant!

snow day

The schools in Austin were cancelled today, on account of the winter weather. We celebrated our “snow” day with some french toast this morning for breakfast.

And here is all the snow and ice, which is hard to see on account of all the sun that came out today.
