Today the girl asked me on an ice cream date so we walked down to Amy’s Ice Cream because it is right next door and it was such a beautiful day in Austin.

Barreled 2013 date night
Last week the girl and I had a fun date night and attended a great event that was put on by Dulce Vida Tequila, Barreled 2013. It was their inaugural Barreled event and was a great way to kick off the pre-SXSW activities with some good food, music and company. The set-up was awesome with food trucks in the parking lot and barrels stood up on end for tables for people to pull up at and enjoy some tasty guacamole and tacos. They even took some old wooden pallets and turned them into swinging benches inside the warehouse which helped create a really fun vibe and atmosphere. Not to mention they partnered with Collings Guitars to put on some great live music featuring local musicians such as MilkDrive, Redd Volkert and Sons of Fathers!

Now that’s a way to welcome your guests! A huge logo projected on the side of a warehouse.

A photographer with a nice set-up greeted you as soon as you walked in the door. Say “Cheese”!

Strings of light across the warehouse really helped set the mood.

Guac N’ Roll was there and we got to try all three kinds of guacamole they had. Who doesn’t love avocado?

The Peached Tortilla food truck was in attendance and had their usual great tacos and brussel sprouts with bacon jam.

Dock & Roll Diner had some great poppers and at first I thought it said “fresh pickled lobster” and was completely confused until the girl corrected me.
SXSW invades Austin
I’m not sure when it happened, but SXSW Interactive has become a huge deal in Austin for brands, agencies, start-ups and everyone else in between. Its popularity has grown to the scale of an estimated 80,000 badge holders (according to the nice individual who helped me check in at registration) which is insane to me! That is a lot of people.
Two of my favorite things about SXSW are the people watching and the social media conversations that pop up which is why I’m a fan of Mashable’s SXSW Trendspotter that they have created through a partnership with Topsy. Case in point is that during a session today on “How to Rank Better in Google and Bing” the hashtag #Bingle popped up and was a top trending hashtag during day one of SXSW Interactive which I found highly entertaining and amusing.
A monthly coffee surprise
It’s the Christmas present that keeps on giving! I just got my second monthly coffee sample from the Craft Coffee present that the girl got me for Christmas. This month I got three different varieties of “washed” coffee beans from around the globe. The descriptions of each coffee is pretty entertaining sometimes because while I do love the coffee, I don’t think I have a sophisticated enough coffee palate to pick up on some of the flavors.
A good use for a dry-erase board
Sometimes you just have to use your glass window that doubles as a dry-erase board to write a message to send to your girl.

An office with a duck pond view
One of the new perks of our new office at Mason Zimbler is the sweet duck pond that you can walk to whenever you need to stretch your legs and take a nice stroll outside. Be on the look out for those two geese in the back, word on the street is that they’ll bully you for your lunch money.

Our first registry!
Last weekend we when to our first registry at Crate & Barrel! Overall, it was a pretty fun experience. We showed up early in the morning before the store was open to the public and we got to go in and mosey around. We got there before the rest of the couples so we had some time to kill before things got started. Crate & Barrel did a good job setting up and even provided coffee, baked goods and a cake tasting. We didn’t taste any cake since it was 9 a.m. in the morning and felt that maybe breakfast tacos might have been a better choice.
I used the Crate & Barrel iPhone app instead of the scanner, which to my disappointment wasn’t even the scanner that you see in all the movies that is shaped like a gun so you can shoot everything you want. We found a few things that we liked and didn’t try to go too crazy by only focusing on the essential things that we felt that we would need when we official embark on our married life together.
Wedding invitation inspiration
As most people know, the girl and I are in the midst of some major wedding planning efforts! It’s been pretty fun so far and the girl has taken the lead on lending her creativity to designing our save the dates and wedding invitations. So to spark some creativity, we went down to the Paper Source the other week here in Austin. It’s a pretty cool store and it seemed like they had a paper for any occasion!
The two below are ones I found as I was flipping through a huge binder of wedding invitation samples that caught my eye and I kind of liked because I respect a good font and color combo.
It’s the little things in life
I found a new way to carry my empty travel coffee mug home from work. It made me pretty happy inside for no real reason other than the fact that it’s always important to enjoy the little things in life. And it let me be hands-free to text the girl when I leave the office.

Personalized coffee pods
I love coffee and I have been lucky enough to have been able to introduce the girl to the joy of coffee and now we drink it together every morning (which is always one of the best parts of my day). While at work the other day, I was making some coffee and I was making some Starbuck’s Pikes Place coffee and it reminded me of the girl and our wedding planning efforts because we’re planning on getting married in her hometown which is some-what nearby and I got to thinking…it would be super cool if you could make your own personal “brand” of coffee and get custom coffee pods that you crafted your own flavor and taste to.
Is this something that is already done? If not, I claim the rights to this idea right now.
