#SuBruNo: Brunch @ Austin Ale House

SuBruNo (Sunday-Brunch-Nothing) is something that the girl and I came up with because we’ve made a focused effort to only do the following on Sundays: Sunday stuff (like church), Brunch (because breakfast is our favorite meal) and Nothing (because that’s what Sundays are for).

This past weekend we tried out a new brunch spot with one of our close friends down at the Austin Ale House in downtown Austin. It had a cool vibe and was not too busy which we liked. The coffee was good, the service was prompt and their brunch was nice so all-in-all I would have to say it was a solid brunch adventure. I had the steak & eggs since they didn’t have eggs benedict and the girl had their free-range scramble which looked delicious.

Now, all we have to decide is where to this Sunday?

Fresh cut grass

There is something extremely satisfying about doing yard work. I think it must have something to do with the feeling of instant gratification you get after seeing the results of your sweat and labor. The girl and I got our first lawn mower together and I was finally able to mow our lawn for the second time (the first time it was done by a very nice friend of ours while we were out of town) this past weekend! I did a lot of research on how to maintain a green lawn and found some useful articles about how to identify the type of grass you have and how tall you should mow your grass. I decided on a pretty standard 3″ cut and will see where it goes from there.

Hunting for garden pots on Craigslist

One of the best ideas that we had for our wedding was to create and promote a hashtag that people could use to tag photos they took on Twitter and Instagram of wedding day activities.  We promoted it on our website and in our invitations and it was really great because we were able to crowdsource some candid moments behind-the-scenes at our wedding that we might not have been able to get since a photographer can’t be everywhere at once.

Wag your tail

You can always tell a dog is happy when they’re wagging their tail. Marley will wag her tail even when you just look at her, which is what she was doing below as she waited patiently for one of us to get up and take her outside.

Getting a grill…

Now that I have space for a grill outside now, I want nothing more than to get a super sweet grill. I’ve been immersed in researching what the best options are and I had to practice a lot of restraint when I walked into Home Depot over the recent 4th of July weekend and not buy the first one I saw which was hard to do when I walked into this….

Is this really our view?

How often does your actual hotel room look like the pictures on the website that you saw when you booked your room? I would have to say almost never which is why we were pretty excited when we got to our room and saw that it was 99.9% like the picture on the website. I was fairly convinced that the photo on the website was taken from our room’s balcony.

It’s a bike and a table

This past weekend we made a game-time decision to head down to the Renegade Craft Fair on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the girl’s half-birthday. There was one vendor there called Mod-Tops that was pretty awesome because they made tables and other types of furniture out of reclaimed wood and other products. The bike-table was the coolest one there I think.

First wedding gift

Last week was very exciting for us because we got our first wedding gift! It’s a big deal not because it’s a present, but because of what it represents and it means that we’re finally getting really close to our actual wedding date which is the most thrilling part. Leave it to my Grandma Susie (who is my adoptive Korean grandmother) to be the first one to send us an awesome gift.

Funky chicken

I get a ton of emails everyday between my work and my personal email so it’s not often that I get an email that intrigues me enough to open if it’s not related to something I am actively working on or planning. Jack Brown Cleaners sent me the email below the other day and I have to say it was pretty entertaining to read. It had everything…a disco ball, a chicken, a patriotic appeal and a nostalgia because everyone has done the chicken dance before. Enjoy!
