pretty pretty princesses

My sister needed a present to give to a little girl, and these are what she wanted to make. Sometimes, people say that they want to make something, and then somehow, I end up doing a lot of it. And you might not be able to tell from the picture, but these things are tiny, wee, little dolls.

I may have complained the entire way through making these, but really inside, I was not mad at all. Because look at their little faces, and their hair. You can’t be angry at that.

There are tutorials all over the internet of how to make these, in case you need some of your own.

holiday cards

I agree that it is a tiny bit earlier to start thinking about holidays, but good DIY projects need the proper planning! Handmade items are worth some extra effort, and are also a good way to spend these new dark evenings. After dinner it looks like bedtime now, so its either sleep, or keep my hands busy so my eyes don’t automatically shut.

I have some new holiday pattern cards in the shop. They are kits, so you can make the cards yourself! They come patterned and everything, so they are ready to go once you get them. Just stitch them up, add some names at the bottom, and you got yourself some fancy holiday greetings.wreathheart6snowflake6

fine husband craftsmanship

Along with being my best friend, my guy is also my tech support and carpenter. He recently crafted us some matching nightstands. I am really happy with how they turned out! We are still doing some rearranging of nightstand items, and finding the right spot for all the things, but boy do those nightstands look good.

We used this tutorial here. If you are thinking about trying it, we think the measurements of the wood are incorrect, and they used 1x8x8 pieces of wood, not 2x8x8. So keep that in mind when buying wood and nails. Other than that, they were pretty easy to put together!

cat bat

The cat bat pattern is my favorite in the pumpkin carving book. I carved it last year, and the year before, and I’ll probably use it again this year. Because I like it, and its fun to say cat bat.

Since it might be too early to carve a pumpkin yet, I made a fleece version of cat bat to grace our table for the season. And also scare all intruders.cat bat2

Cat bat is a very simple little creation, so I made up a (very basic) pattern you can find here. Make your own!!! You can add a little face, or fangs, or fancy wing designs. I added a tail to mine. Because he is a cat, who is also a bat. Not the other way around. Possible cat bat configurations are endless.cat bat

cereal organizer

Remember these? We are getting ready for the arrival of a new table for our work room, and I’ve been doing a lot of cleaning out and organizing. I happened to remember cereal box holders. Now we have a couple homeless bags of cereal, but two brand new ribbon and interfacing holders. I covered them with brown paper, and then added some tape accents. They almost look like two really tall books. Like for giants to read.

upgrade

Our bathroom in the new house was not my favorite. It literally has almost no place to put anything. The mirror is way too high on the wall, and I can only see half my face in it. It kind of needs more work, but we decided to do what we can to make it better for the time being.

And now it is like our favorite room in the house! We hung a little wall shelf with some plants. We hung a mirror ON TOP of the mirror, so I can see my own face. We added another shelf for storage with some baskets. And then we hung hooks for our towels behind the door, and added a collection of hand towels to the rack instead. Its so much brighter and happier in there now!

hem a dress

Cutting up clothes you just bought always feels like you are doing something wrong, so its oddly satisfying. Like making cut-off shorts. Even the little act of hemming a dress feels like a crime at first, but I bought it, so it should fit ME. Now that this little summer dress doesn’t come down past my knees, it can be welcomed into my closet with open arms (or hangers). hemmingdresses
