Shouldn’t kids be outside?

I saw this advertisement when I was signing in to pay my cable bill and found it pretty entertaining that Time Warner had figured out a way to not only promote their faster internet but also that it empowered kids to watch more of their TV channels. I feel like at some point kids should be going outside and playing sports and stuff when they’re done with their homework and not always plopping down in front of a TV. Also, what parent lets their kid watch HBO? Maybe they’re not targeting parents with younger kids, but still…

Something useful in SkyMall

For anyone that has ever picked up a SkyMall magazine while sitting a plane, you know that they have some fairly ridiculous items in there that you most likely will never have a need for such as a replica of a sword from Lord of the Rings or a suit-case that kills bed bugs…so it was a pleasant surprise that I actually found a product that I am seriously considering getting for work….a standing desk! Sign me up.

Roadtrip BBQ

Last week on a trip to Raleigh, NC for work we went to a really great BBQ place located right by the NCSU campus called The Pit. I love BBQ so I was pretty excited when I found out that was where we were headed for dinner. If you don’t know, the girl and I usually try and eat some type of BBQ once a week and typically we end up at Rudy’s because you can’t really go wrong with them.

Anyways, The Pit specializes in authentic whole-hog, pit-cooked barbecue and I was told that I had to try the Carolina ribs so that is what I got. Long story short, the team and I enjoyed more than our fair share of great food and I did not have to eat again until dinner time the next day.

Lobster on a Saturday

This past Saturday we went and got dinner with Ross, but it wasn’t just any dinner. It was a lobster dinner at Quality Seafood to take advantage of their Saturday special and it was quite delicious. We got there right before the crowd so were lucky enough to not wait long and grab a table to eat our lobster and fried okra. We will definitely be going back because how many places do you get to go where you get to play with your food before you eat it? If you want a lobster close-up, check out the girl’s lobster saying hello!

Bowling in the afternoon

There’s nothing like taking an early afternoon to hit the lanes for some bowling practice. A few coworkers and I hit up Dart Bowl last Friday to get some practice games in before the upcoming Beach Bowl 2013 this week and we ended up doing surprisingly well in our last practice game!

#SuBruNo: Brunch @ Torchy’s Tacos

Ok, so it’s not really a “brunch” spot but the girl and I had a craving for Torchy’s breakfast tacos so that’s where we went this past weekend for our “Bru” of our traditional #SubruNo activities (Sunday – Brunch – Nothing). You really can’t go wrong with a breakfast taco or two to kick-start your Sunday!

A garden oasis

We have made a decision to use plants as decorations in our house mainly because we feel it makes our home feel more like a home and it’s fun to have lots of plants (big and small) placed in strategic locations around the house.

This past weekend we went to a garden oasis in Austin that the girl had heard about through the local Austin bloggers that she follows known as The Natural Gardener. Everyone had great things to say about it so we had to check it out for ourselves and we were not disappointed! They had every kind of plant imaginable – from huge outdoor plants to small indoor succulents. It was a pretty cool place and we will definitely be back soon as we start moving from decorating inside to outdoor landscaping….coming soon!

A “key” to play tic-tac-toe

The first thing I do when I open my mailbox and see junk mail is throw it away. That’s why I had to just call-out one mailer that I got recently that did make me pause (even if it was for 5 seconds) to read it simply because this direct mail piece had an actual key glued to the front that this sweepstakes company wanted me to use to play a scratch-off tic tac toe game. I didn’t do it, but it did keep my attention a little bit longer than the 500 other junk mail pieces I got that day.

Her first baseball game

We were in Dallas a few weekends ago for a friend’s wedding and I took the opportunity to take the girl to her first ever baseball game. Even though it was a Rangers game (Go Astros!), it was a lot of fun. It started off a little wet with a torrential down-pour while we were trying to park and for the walk to the stadium, but when we got to our seats it started to let up and stopped for a perfect night of baseball!

How to catch a bee

  1. Go to a place outside to enjoy some good food with a great group of people like Easy Tiger, because bees will undoubtedly find you there. I recommend the corned beef sandwich and pretzels.
  2. Lull the bee that’s flying by your head into a false sense of security and bait it into flying into an empty drink glass to rest and re-hydrate.
  3. Slam a cup on top of it!
  4. Boom. Bee captured. And an example is set for all other bees who dare try and sting you.
