burgers in austin: phil’s icehouse

We love our hamburgers. Its one of the foods we crave and debate most often. We thought it might be fun to critique some of our favorite spots!

First off, the smell of hamburgers remind me of high school football games. So those are the hamburgers we tend to like best. Not so much the fancy pants kind. People swear by places like Hopdoddy, which is good, but we kinda think once you get too much stuff going on, it becomes more like an intense sandwich.

Our most recent hamburger date took place on Valentine’s Day afternoon. We went to Phil’s Icehouse. We can walk there from our house, and it was such a pretty day outside, so that already had us in a good mood.

We usually get the classic burger or the one with bbq sauce. Their burgers automatically come with half regular fries, and half sweet potatoes fries, which is the best of both worlds. The buns are big, fluffy, and slightly sweet. They don’t get all gross and soggy if you need to take your time eating. They have the good kind of hamburger cut pickles. The burger patties aren’t ginormous, and just the right amount of juicy. We also like that the menu items are named after local neighborhoods, and of course, there is an Amy’s ice cream shop right next door. They have lots of outdoor seating, or they open up the big garage type doors on nice days so you can eat inside with the nice breeze.

Definitely our favorite hamburger in the neighborhood, and we can walk off all the burger calories on our way home.
